Department of Business Administration Staff Retreat: Bridging Industry Exposure with Academic Strategy

On 24 June 2026, led by the Department Head, Dr. Monica Law, the teaching staff of the Department of Business Administration embarked on a comprehensive retreat designed to fuse external industry observation with internal strategic planning. The day combined site visits to two prominent Shenzhen venues – the Shenzhen Industrial Museum (深圳市工业展览馆) and Cyborg (赛博格机器人) – followed by a focused roundtable discussion to distil lessons learned into concrete academic actions.

Exhibition Visit: Tracking Market Dynamics

At the Shenzhen Industrial Museum, our departmental members examined emerging market trends, digital transformation drivers, and pioneering industrial innovations. The exhibits offered how traditional manufacturing is evolving through smart technologies, equipping our team with practical examples to refresh lecture content and case studies. This direct exposure ensures that our curriculum remains responsive to the fast-changing commercial environment our students will enter.

Corporate Visit: Immersion in Embodied AI and Robotics

The visit to Cyborg (Shenzhen) provided an in-depth look at real‑world applications of embodied artificial intelligence, bionic robotics, and human‑machine collaborative systems. The members observed automated production lines and analysed the firm’s strategic partnership models, gathering rich, contemporary case material. These observations will directly inform our teaching in operations management, innovation strategy, and technology commercialisation, while also stimulating new avenues for applied research.

Strategic Roundtable: Translating Insights into Action

Following the site visits, the members convened a strategic roundtable discussion to share insights and prepare for internal change. The discussion centred on several priority areas with actionable plans developed for each, including faculty identity and alignment, employability as a shared priority, and student support for career readiness.

The retreat concluded with a synthesis of insights gained from the site visits and in-depth discussions. By closely aligning our teaching, research, and student support with the realities of modern industry, the Department reaffirms its commitment to updating our curricula and ensuring our students are fully equipped to lead in tomorrow's business landscape.
