The Evolution of Digital Entrepreneurship, FinTech and FinReg

Digital Entrepreneurship, Financial Technology (FinTech) and Financial Regulation (FinReg) is about to change our society, economics and business ecosystem. This IIDS project invites top scholars from overseas to present seminars and being keynote of an international conference on essential topics related to the evolution of digital entrepreneurship, FinTech and FinReg. This IIDS project consists of six seminars (from Sep to Nov, 2020) and an international conference (24 Mar 2021). All the events will be open to other institutions and to the public. This INTER-INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT SCHEME (IIDS) is fully supported by a grant from the Research Grants Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China (RGC Ref. No.: UGC/IIDS15/B01/19)

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all speakers and participants for your support and contribution to this IIDS project. All events (Six Seminars and Conference) had successfully completed. The IIDS project received over 200 registrations. On average around 100 participants join us online/offline in each event. The project website have received over 1000 visitors globally and more than 3000 views for the last 9 months.

All of your contribution made the IIDS project success and it was a great pleasure to see so many of you joining us. Hopefully you enjoyed the IIDS events and you can take the opportunity to extend your networks.

Brit is Executive Director, Innovation and Ecosystems, Consumer Banking Group. Brit is a digital executive with over 20 years of experience. Prior to joining DBS, Brit was a Director at Dun & Bradstreet, leading its digital transformation. She has also held senior positions at major media and internet companies, such as AOL and Univision, and helped launch and run several successful internet and financial startups.

Brit holds a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and also studied at the University of Grenoble in France. She is on the digital banking committee of the FinTech Association of Hong Kong, a member of Women in Tech Hong Kong, and is a regular speaker at industry events across Asia.

Speaker: Mr. Cheney Cheng, Managing Partner, Altive Group; Chairman, Apoidea Group

Mr. Cheney Cheng is the Managing Partner of Altive and Chairman of Apoidea Group. Altive is an Asset Management company offering Alternative Investment to Private investors; whilst Apoidea offers AI solution to Financial institutions. Cheney started his career at Goldman Sachs and had been focused on the venture capital investment and M&A in the technology sector.

Cheney is passionate in education and children’s wellbeing. Cheney is a co-founder of “Teach For Hong Kong”, a tax-exempt charity which supplies diversified young talents to the education industry by offering non-education degree fresh graduates a one-year teaching leadership program at underprivileged schools. Cheney is also a co-founder of DotKids, a domain registry of .kids to provide safe internet for children. Cheney obtained a BBA in Global Business and Economics from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, during the time he was a visiting student in Harvard University and Peking University.

How does, and Could, Technical replace human intelligence? An insight from using Traslateral RegTech in conducting stronger AML/CFT Control

Speaker: Mr. Eric Shun-Kuen Chan, Deputy CEO of CNBCB (HK) Capital Ltd

Mr. Eric Shun-Kuen Chan has spent more than 30 years in the finance industry. He used to work in Price Waterhouse with special focus on business assurance, IPO, M&A, insolvency and then in a private equity fund house as the technical director to oversee technical aspects of PE investments. He is now Deputy CEO of CNBCB (HK) Capital Ltd. Overseeing and managing the Type 1, 4, 6, 9 licensed regulated activities. CNCB (HK) Capital Ltd. Is an investment arm of China state-owned CITIC Bank active in iBanking activities for cross-border transactions throughout trans-Pacific region and Hong Kong.

Mr. Chan graduated from Macquarie University in Australia with a degree of B. Econ. In 1985 and from University of New South Wales in Australia with a degree of M. Comm. In 1987. He was also awarded the degree of LL.B. from University of Wolverhampton in England in 1995. Eric is a Certified Public Accountant in Australia since 1991 and a member of HKICPA since 1992.

Mr. Andre Leung is a Regtech and Suptech expert with international financial services experience based in London, New York, San Francisco, Hong Kong and Singapore from Computer Associates, Accenture, Moody’s Analytics and Thomson Reuters. He is a professional consultant providing AML/CFT expertise to Licensed Corporations and Regulators from developed economics. He is CEO of Aereve, a Regtech and Suptech company, specializing in AML/CFT regulatory effectiveness.

Andre holds MA and BA in Mathematics from Oxford University, United Kingdom and Executive MBA from Kellogg -HKUST EMBA program, USA. Andre is the co-founder and general manager of Sports for Hope Foundation, a charitable organization to boost funding to young highly-talented underprivileged athletes in Hong Kong.

Prof Longbing Cao (The Data Science Lab: www.datasciences.org) is a professor and an Australian Research Council Future Fellow (at professorial level) at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).

Prof CAO holds a PhD in Computing Science and another PhD in Pattern Recognition and Intelligent Systems. Some 300 publications, four monographs, and four edited books have been published on his research on data science and analytics, and AI and their enterprise applications with dozens sole/first-authored. He initiated areas including actionable knowledge discovery, non-IID learning, behavior informatics (behavior computing), and agent mining, in addition to general interest in artificial intelligence, machine learning, knowledge discovery, and recommender systems. He established the data science lab in 2007, a university’s research institute Advanced Analytics Institute and the degrees Master of Analytics (Research) and PhD in Analytics in 2011, the IEEE Conference on Data Science and Advanced Analytics (DSAA) in 2014, and the International Journal of Data Science and Analytics (JDSA) with Springer in 2015. His enterprise data science innovations have been widely transformed government and business organizations in over 10 domains, resulting in billions of dollars in savings and special mentions in government, industry, media and OECD reports. He received a Eureka Prize in Australia for excellence in data science.

Dr. Oriol CAUDEVILLA is the fellow at the Digital Euro Association (D€A) in Germany. He is a FinTech Advisor, Consultant and Researcher (in Digital Banking and Finance, Central Bank Digital Currencies, Blockchain and Crypto).

DR. ORIOL CAUDEVILLA is the fellow at the Digital Euro Association (D€A) in Germany and at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). He is the consultant of Blockchain Trade finance project, Qatar University, Doha. Recently he gave seminars on Blockchain and Central Bank Digital Currencies at the City University of Macau and Saint Joseph University. He participated in the UAE/Israel Week as a guest speaker as well as the Future of FinTech event in Saudi Arabia. He publishes articles in several media, including China Daily (both the Global and Hong Kong Edition) and Macau Business. He has given talks and seminars on the Chinese Financial System, Central Bank Digital Currencies and the Digital Yuan in several universities , as well as in international conferences, like the recent MENA Future of Fintech 2021 and London FinTech Conference 2021.

Mr. Rono Kwong is the founder of Best Video Limited, Best Event Limited, Gimmick Box Limited (4As) and Life Protection Technology Limited. As the pioneer of business HD multimedia content production, Mr. Kwong has proven outstanding and continuous achievements in HK’s creative industry. In 2020, Rono started his e-commerce business and established a new e-commerce platform “Gimmick Easy”.

Over the years, Rono spent significant effort and time to support other young entrepreneurs. In 2015, with the sponsorship of The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, Rono founded Hong Kong General Chamber of Young Entrepreneurs (HKGCYE) with over 150 young entrepreneurs. Rono is the Chairman of HKGCYE which is one of the most recognized young entrepreneur chambers in the region. For community service, Rono has over 10 years volunteer work experience. He also found Lions Club of Hong Kong Sun as the charter President in 2009. The club provides a variety of volunteer services for teenagers, elderly, antidrug and new immigrants in HK over the years.

Percy CHAN, CEO & Partner, Jiyan Investment Management (HK) Co. Ltd

Mr. Percy Chan has over 20 years of investment experience. He worked as a CEO, GM, fund manager and other important roles in well known financial institutions such as HSBC Investment Bank Asia (Wardley), Citibank, Amundi Pioneer Asset Management , Standard Chartered , Bank of East Asia (China) etc.


Mr. Chan was often interviewed by various medias including Forbes, China Securities Journal, China-CBN, RTHK, etc. He is also a distinguished professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. Mr. Percy Chan has won various awards such as “Most Influential Economist” and “Best Forecast Market Figure of the Year”.

 
Gordon LAM, Chairman, Sino-Future Group Limited

Mr. Lam is the Executive Director of Bonjour Holdings Limited (0653.HK) in 2020. He has extensive experience in global supply chain management, e-commerce, technology incubation and investments. Mr Lam is an Adjunct Professor of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Business School, Renmin University Business School in Beijing, and Zhejiang University School of Management in Hangzhou, and a joint Adjunct Professor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) School of Management & Economics, UBC Sauder Business School & Copenhagen Business School, respectively.

Mr, Lam worked in PricewaterhouseCoopers Hong Kong in 2003. Then he joined Li & Fung Group (one of the world’s largest consumer supply chain management company) and worked until 2015 as the Chief Representative and General Manager of Southern China of the Group. He became the Chairman of Compass Innovation Alliance, one of the leading Greater Bay Area technology & innovation platform of Fortune 500 Corporate Ventures in Hong Kong. He was the recipient of the ‘2019 Greater China Outstanding Youth Entrepreneur Award’ presented by the Hong Kong Commercial Daily, as well as the ‘2020 Most Outstanding Youth Entrepreneur of the Greater Bay Area Award’ presented by the Guangdong-HK-Macao Bay Area Entrepreneurs Union. Since 2010, Mr Lam has been a guest speaker for 76 Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC)’s forums and events. He is well-known to all departments of the HKTDC, and he has joined various HKTDC’s business delegations to Mainland China, ASEAN countries, USA, Germany, France, Israel and Russia etc. since 2015. He is currently a committee member of HKTDC’s China Mainland Business Advisory Committee. Mr. Lam is a member of the Twelfth Guangdong Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), a member of the Expert Committee to the Second Ministry of Commerce Advisory Committee for Economic & Trade Policy, Vice Chairman of the Council for the Promotion of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation and Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Guangdong Youth Association. Mr. Lam served as a part-time member of the Central Policy Unit of the Government of Hong Kong from 2011 to 2012, and is currently serving as an advisory committee of the Sustainable Agricultural Development Fund of the Government of Hong Kong, a committee member of the Appeal Panel (Housing) of the Government of Hong Kong.
